  • Matt Malecot Mark Boughton , I don't think you realize how anti-gun MAIG really is. They would gladly outlaw concealed carry completely if they could, and have been pushing businesses and public locations across the country to ban all legal guns on the premises. In the 80s, groups like the Brady Campaign worked to ban handguns, which then switched to scarier looking "assault rifles" because the confusion between commonly owned semi-automatic civilian rifles and military machine guns created more support among voters who are not familiar with guns. These groups can say they support the 2nd Amendment all they want, but they would consider the gun bans in Australia or England as being consistent with the 2nd Amendment because they believe the 2nd Amendment only applies to members of a militia, a position which has never been true and was definitively shot down by the Supreme Court just a few years ago.

Groups like MAIG are the enemy of individual liberty in this country, as their leader Michael Bloomberg has shown on a countless number of issues. They hate Constitutional limits on government authority, and they hate the fact that the 2nd Amendment restricts their ability to outlaw guns owned by the public. By being part of that group you are saying to every gun owner that you, too, hate the Constitution and hate individual freedom. So have you asked yourself why you're actually a part of MAIG? Is it really pushing for the solutions to gun violence which you think are going to be effective in reducing violent crime? I hope your membership there is simply a reflection of your sympathy for the Newtown victims, and not your support for Bloomberg's radical anti-gun policies.

Gun owners have lots of good, meaningful suggestions on how to *actually* reduce violence in this state, which are supported by mountains of empirical evidence. Why don't you come speak to CCDL some time so we can have a discussion to clarify your positions on legal gun ownership in CT. They meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month in Middletown. You could speak to the president, Scott Wilson to work out the details. Their numbers are over 10000 and growing, all grassroots members, on top of hundreds of thousands of gun owners in this state who care about this issue. It couldn't hurt to open a dialogue if you want to be elected - as it stands now, most gun owners are not going to support your campaign as long as you are aligned with Bloomberg.
